The Joint Synods will take place at The Crowne Plaza at Ravinia conference center in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Continuing Anglican world is coming together this week as nearly 500 synod delegates from North and South America, Asia, Africa, and Europe are scheduled to meet in Atlanta, Georgia.

Representatives from the Anglican Catholic Church (ACC), the Anglican Church in America (ACA), the Anglican Province of America (APA), and the Diocese of the Holy Cross (DHC) will meet in joint synods at the Crowne Plaza at Ravinia to conduct business and worship together in this historic event.

The 2017 gathering of Continuing Anglicans coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Congress of St. Louis, from which all four jurisdictions are descended.  The expected announcement of full communion (communio in sacris) at a plenary session will mark the healing of an old rift, and a restoration of the unity envisioned by the Affirmation of St. Louis, the founding document of Continuing Anglicanism.

The week will be capped off by Mass for Christian Unity (October 6th at 11:00 am EST), at which Bishop Paul Hewett of the DHC will be celebrant.  The Most Reverend Walter Grundorf of the APA will preach; the Most Reverend Brian Marsh of the ACA will preside.  Observers from several different Churches and other Anglican jurisdictions are expected to be present.

In addition to conducting the regular business of their synods, bishops from the four jurisdictions will also have conversations about the future, looking especially at the steps necessary to achieve organic union. ACC Archbishop Mark Haverland notes that the jurisdictions are already working together on a practical level.

"The ACC's St. Paul Mission Society sent funds last week to ACC, APA, and DHC parishes in Texas to help with hurricane relief and their own repairs; and the collection from Friday's mass will be sent to APA parishes in Puerto Rico to assist with rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma."
